T.R.S. Recycling – Data Destruction & Device Handling Policy
At T.R.S. Recycling, we take data privacy and environmental responsibility seriously. Whether serving a homeowner or a business, every device is processed with care, transparency, and in alignment with industry and government standards.
How We Destroy Your Data
We use a two-step approach to ensure all data is permanently unrecoverable:
1. Physical Destruction – Always Included
Every data-containing device — including hard drives, SSDs, flash drives, and legacy phones (such as Nokias and BlackBerrys) — is physically destroyed by default.
This meets or exceeds standards set by:
IRS Publication 1075
U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Physical destruction is performed on every job to guarantee baseline data security.
2. Wiping (Optional, Available for Eligible Devices)
For devices that support software wiping, we offer NIST-compliant data erasure using:
Macrorit Data Wiper Pro – our standard, secure, and efficient wiping tool
KillDisk Professional – used when a third-party certificate is requested
All wiping procedures comply with NIST 800-88 Rev. 1 (Clear or Purge) standards.
Wiping is typically performed when documentation or certification is required. If not requested, physical destruction alone is sufficient for data security.
Certificates of Destruction
Upon request, we provide two types of destruction certificates:
T.R.S. Recycling Certificate of Destruction (standard, issued by us)
KillDisk Third-Party Certificate of Destruction (available only for wiped devices)
Please note: Certificates require additional processing time and must be requested at the time of service.
After Data is Destroyed
Once data is securely destroyed, devices are handled responsibly:
Recycled in accordance with R2 Responsible Recycling standards
Salvaged for working parts that may be reused for repair
Refurbished, when possible, with new or securely wiped storage to extend device life and reduce e-waste
Custom Documentation
If your organization requires industry-specific compliance or custom certification, T.R.S. Recycling can provide tailored documentation for sectors including medical, legal, nonprofit, or government.
